What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is the address of your website that people type in the browser URL bar to visit your website.

What is a SubDomain?

A subdomain is an additional part of your main domain name. Subdomains are created to organize and navigate to different sections of your website. You can create multiple subdomains with your main domain.

For example,

In this example, ‘video’ is the subdomain, ‘hippovideo’ (your website) is the primary domain and ‘.io’ is the top-level domain. You can use any text as your subdomain, but you want to make sure it’s easy for the user to access.

What is a Custom Domain?

A custom domain is one that belongs to you and only you.

How do I set up subdomain and custom domain inside Hippo Video?

  1. Log-in to  Hippo Video with your existing credentials.

  2. Click on More icon from the left navbar and then click Settings.

  3. Once you’re there, you will see Custom Domain under the Branding section.

  1. Add your Custom domain in the space provided. 

  2. Optionally, you can add your sub-domains in the Sub-domain field.

  1. To set up Custom Domain, you need to configure your domain with a unique DNS record provided by Hippo Video
    Note: DNS is a system that converts textual domain names into numerical IP addresses, which are needed to locate and identify web services. For more details on creating a sub-domain from Namecheapclick here and Google, click here.

  1. Please enter your Video Portal URL and submit your request below. The certificate process might take a week.

  2. Once you’ve added the domain, click Save at the upper right.
